The Chelsea pensioners were treated to music from the Denham Hendon brass band, snacks, and most importantly, beer. Despite the fact that CAMRA threw in some beer tokens, it looks unlikely they'll be used, as people were queueing up to buy the gentlemen a pint. ... The winning brewery, Rudgate based in York will no doubt see orders for their Ruby Mild boom in the coming days and weeks. And quite right too. It's a rich, smoky, dark cherry coloured ale and makes a pleasant change from the current trend towards lighter golden ales. Read the full story Comments (1) ![]() Ruby Mild voted best in BritainWed, 05 Aug 2009 A strong dark mild, Rudgate Ruby Mild (4.4%), has been voted the Champion Beer of Britain at the Great British Beer Festival in London (4 August). The beer is brewed in Tockwith, North Yorkshire, on a former airfield close to York. The beer is brewed with pale, crystal and chocolate malts and hopped with Challenger, Styrian Goldings and American Cascades. It has a rich vinous/fruity character with hints of chocolate, caramel and spicy hops.
